Dr. Epstein received a degree in Psychology from Brooklyn College in 2007 and obtained a medical degree at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2012. He completed 4 years of psychiatry residency at Berkshire Medical Center where he served as a Chief Resident. He received additional experience in Addictions and Psychodynamic psychotherapy.
In addition to private practice, he works in several other intensive treatment settings. As a teaching faculty at Albany Medical College he teaches psychiatrists in training in didactics, clinical and individual supervision. |
A Board Certified adult psychiatrist, Dr. Epstein treats a wide variety of conditions, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, addictions, ADHD, trauma-related and psychotic illness. He also helps people dealing with personality issues, identity problems, losses, life transitions (marriage, divorce, pregnancy, new parenthood, retirement, etc.), and relationship difficulties.
Whatever the diagnosis, his primary goal is to help you live your life fully and with meaning, no matter the challenges that have brought you to seek help.
Rather than reactively prescribing medications to stop your symptoms Dr. Epstein strives to get to know the person behind the symptoms. Rather than temporarily blocking the pain he’ll invite you to understand it in context of your unique life story.
Dr. Epstein’s toolbox includes psychotherapy, medications, diet, and other interventions. While certain medications might play an important role in relieving troublesome symptoms that cause suffering, you may work together in a joint exploration of your thoughts and feelings through psychotherapy or focus on coping skills and techniques for you to use. Whatever your needs, you will work together to develop a thoughtful, individualized, mutually agreed upon treatment plan.
Dr. Epstein believes that everyone's version of anxiety or depression is different. When you meet, he’ll try to learn and understand your life story rather than reduce it to a diagnostic code. He will be your guide on a journey exploring your inner world with the goal to reduce the hurt and help you to find a happier self.
